Frequently Asked Questions

CAN I BRING MY OWN GUN?
Sure, just make sure it’s unloaded and in the proper case.  There is no handling of firearms in the classroom, so please leave it in your car until directed to bring it in for the range portion.

WHAT DO YOU DO FOR LUNCH?
Lunch is brought in during class.  We normally order pizza, based on what the group wants to do.  If you have special dietary requirements, that’s no problem either.

HOW LONG IS THE CLASS?
The class is at least 8 hours long, and often times longer than that.  We have a lot of material to cover, and Michigan mandates the class must be 8 hours minimum.  Depending on the size of the class, questions, etc classes can go longer than 8 hours but normally not longer than 9.

HOW LONG IS THE CERTIFICATE GOOD FOR?
The certificates are good for 5 years from the date they’re issued.

WHAT’S DO I DO AFTER THE CLASS?
Fill out the CPL application, take your CPL training certificate to the County Clerk’s Office, and turn it in to them.  You will be fingerprinted and they send your info to the State Police to verify eligibility.  Assuming everything is good, you will receive your CPL in the mail within 45 days.

8 HOURS SEEMS LIKE A LONG TIME.  WILL I BE BORED?
No!  We keep class informative but also entertaining.  The time will fly by.  The chairs are comfy, there’s coffee available, and opportunities for breaks.  I promise that by the end of the class, it wont’ seem that long at all.

IS THERE A TEST?
Yes.  It is a visual test that we go over in class.  It’s not a pass/fail test, but rather to reinforce key topics we present during class.

IS IT JUST THE INSTRUCTOR TALKING THE WHOLE TIME?
No.  We have a rich multi-media presentation that includes demonstrations, lectures, videos, graphics and hands-on activities, including shooting at the shooting range.

IF I REGISTER AND CAN’T MAKE IT, CAN I RESCHEDULE?
Sure.  Just let us know as soon as possible so we can free up your seat, and we can move you to any future class.
